1996-2002

1996-2002

Ducati Fairings:The 998 Biposto is a base model, but only in relation to the incredibly exotic 998S and 998R models in Ducati's 2002 range. Built around the WSB championship-winning 998cc Testastretta engine, the 998 Biposto was designed to challenge roadbikes like Honda's SP-2 and Aprilia's RSV Mille. The 998 uses the first generation Testastretta engine, which has a bore and stroke of 100 x 63.5mm (3.9 x 2.5in), allowing it to rev higher and produce stronger peak power. The 998's chassis is similar to the previous 996, with a steel-tube trellis frame, Öhlins rear monoshock and Showa upside-down front forks. The revised bodywork is sleeker, and loses the large air intakes on the side.
