The new bike, dubbed the Honda STX1300 Pan European, retains the same transverse V-4 layout of the older bike, but has an all-new chassis and engine. An aluminium frame saves weight and adds stiffness compared with the older steel frame, and the large-capacity engine is packed with modern technology to produce even more torque and power. Ceramic coated aluminium bores cut weight and friction inside the engine, while lasting longer than the old steel liners. New lightweight pistons further reduce friction, and the old bike's camshaft belt drive is replaced by a smaller, maintenance-free chain.
